Mekong River

The Mekong is one of the world’s great river systems, flowing almost five thousand kilometers and falling almost the same distance from its mountainous source all the way down to the sea. The Mekong travels through six countries: China, Myanmar, Thailand, Lao PDR, Cambodia, and Vietnam and for the seventy million people who live in the Lower Mekong regionthe river is the source of all life.

It is a river that spans the glacial highlands of the Tibetan Plateauat an elevation of all the way down to the humid, tropical lowlands of Vietnam where it eventually empties into the South China Sea.

Cambodians live in harmony with the water; the country has an extensive network of waterways and fish is far more common source of protein than red meat.

Many Khmers believe that giant naga still live in the Mekong, protecting their towns and villages, others suggesting the entire river itself is like one giant golden naga rolling and writing across the land.

The mighty Mekong is the giver of life and the maker of legend a majestic, mystical river that is also home to our G Mekong Hotel.
